Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Launch Physical Sales Down Almost 30 Percent from Remake in UK

Launched on February 29th worldwide, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth for PS5 received extensive praise from critics. Unfortunately, physical sales in the UK are down almost 30 percent compared to the launch of Final Fantasy 7 Remake per Gfk data shared by Games Industry head Christopher Dring on Twitter.

Both titles launched on Fridays, so something has to give. As Dring notes, Remake launched during the peak of lockdowns from COVID. Of course, PS4 consoles – which the first part launched for – were more prevalent, crossing 110 million shipments by May 2020. Compare this to the PlayStation 5, which recently crossed 54 million consoles shipped.

Of course, we’ll need to wait and see the digital sales, which arrive later this week. Digital has become even more popular over the years, which may provide a nice bump to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Stay tuned, and in the meantime, check out our review of the title here.

In terms of UK boxed sales, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's opening week is down nearly 30% over the launch of the previous game. The first game came out during the peak of COVID lockdowns (gfk figures). Digital data arrives later in the week.
