Astro Bot Has Reportedly Sold Better Than Every Non-Mario 3D Platformer in Europe in the Last Decade

Reports from the US and the UK have made it clear that Astro Bot has got off to an impressive start where sales are concerned, and more data is continuing to emerge to further reinforce that, even in the absence of official figures from Sony.

Shared by GamesIndustry’s Christopher Dring on Twitter, data from the GSD reveals that over the course of its launch month of September, Astro Bot’s sales were 34 percent higher than what Sonic Frontiers managed in its own launch month, and 52 percent higher than Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time.

In fact, according to Dring, Astro Bot has sold over 200,000 units in Europe alone as of the end of September, with its launch sales in the region being better than “basically every” 3D platformer released in the last decade outside of the Super Mario series.

Astro Bot is available on PS5, and is set to receive free DLC this Fall. Read our review of the game through here.

Europe data for September:

– Game sales up 20%, thanks to several big releases

– PS5 console sales down 17% year-on-year, Switch up 1.5%, Xbox down 58% (Starfield launched last year)

– Astro Bot sales are 34% higher than Sonic Frontiers and 52% bigger than Crash 4— Christopher Dring (@Chris_Dring) October 10, 2024

It did more than that across Europe alone.

But it can only play in the market it's in. Astro Bot has done better than basically every new 3D platform game in the last 10 years (Mario aside). Its true success won't be known for years, but it's had a strong start for the genre.— Christopher Dring (@Chris_Dring) October 11, 2024
