Elden Ring Director Isn’t Ruling Out a Sequel

Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree launches next month and, for better or worse, is the only expansion the acclaimed open-world title will receive. However, that doesn’t mean it won’t get a full-fledged sequel.

Speaking to Zhihu (details translated by GamesRadar), director Hidetaka Miyazaki reiterated that Shadow of the Erdtree would be the title’s first and last expansion. This isn’t a new phenomenon – even the critically acclaimed Bloodborne only received one expansion in The Old Hunters.

However, he feels the studio’s development style provides enough opportunity for another title set in The Lands Between. It doesn’t mean a sequel is incoming, but the possibility is there, somewhat echoing statements made by Miyazaki back in February.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree launches on June 21st for $39.99, and it’s touted as the studio’s largest expansion yet. It’s set in the Land of Shadow with new Legacy Dungeons, over ten new boss fights, including a challenge on “equal footing” with Malenia, Blade of Miquella, eight new weapon categories and more.
